Every job below was hung by us, and the galleries are grouped the way people actually shop for wallpaper — by room. Bedrooms and nurseries, dining rooms and kitchens, bathrooms and powder rooms, and accent walls where the whole effect rides on one surface. Room and material go together more than people expect. Bathrooms and kitchens punish poor preparation, so they get a durable vinyl or non-woven and sealed edges rather than whatever looked best in the sample book. Grasscloth and natural fibers belong in dry rooms — a dining room, a study, a bedroom wall — because the seams are visible by design and the face cannot be cleaned once it is marked. Bedrooms and living rooms are where printed murals do their best work, since one image is split across drops that have only one correct position, and a wall with few interruptions keeps the picture intact. Nurseries and rentals are usually where peel-and-stick earns its place, provided the paint underneath has fully cured.
